Description
In the Save the Americans video, the animals of Costa Rica reach out to “endangered” Americans; that increasingly large portion of Americans who are over-working themselves and endangering their health.
They serenade overworked Americans with a reworked version of the song the The Lion Sleeps Tonight. A sloth, toucan, howler monkey, sea turtles and others encourage Americans to leave their work-stress behind and find sanctuary in Costa Rica.
Execution
The campaign launched with the animals of Costa Rica reaching out to Americans through a music video running on Facebook, YouTube and thousands of sites. It drives to SaveTheAmericans.org, where the overworked can explore over 30 “human sanctuary” videos and find helpful trip planning information.
Endangered Costa Rican Birds tweeted messages and a video of hugging baby sloths was sent to the those using the hashtag #overworked on Twitter.
Offline, the animals delivered the message to those hustling to work through wild postings and saved Wall Streeters with a sand sculpture stating “even a bull needs to be a sloth sometimes.”
Outcome
The music video has received over 4 million views since launching in December 2014, and SaveTheAmericans.org has received 110,000 visitors who are spending ample time exploring the site. Since the campaign launched in December 2014, 250,000 Americans have been saved by visiting Costa Rica, resulting in a 5% lift in tourism and putting us on track to meet our 2015 tourism goal.
