Americans are overworked and under-vacationed. One in four Americans gets no paid time off, and recent studies have shown that physical and mental stress from overwork can shorten life spans.
This insight gave Costa Rica a mission: Help restore Americans’ work/life balance by reminding endangered Americans how important vacation time is for their overall well-being.
As part of our mission and the Save the Americans campaign, we surprised office workers in Los Angeles by placing giant sloths on a window washing cage. Those who took a picture and shared it using the hashtag #slothsweepstakes were eligible to win a trip to Costa Rica.
Social media placements targeting those in and around the high-rise building helped us amplify the message, and we shared Costa Rica’s efforts more broadly with a video that ran on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, dedicated to those in need of a vacation.
