Description
Kyrie Irving returns as "Uncle Drew" in Pepsi's award-winning branded entertainment series about an old street baller who shows up to local basketball courts to school unsuspecting fans. In this chapter, Uncle Drew is rehabbing in Miami with his friends “Louis" (Baron Davis) and “Angelo" (JB Smoove) when he hears that his old nemesis "Skinny Walt" (Ray Allen) is in town talking trash. “Walt" challenges Uncle Drew to a game of H.O.R.S.E. to determine who is the best shooter while also putting on a show for a group of lucky fans.
Execution
To build buzz, we dropped a :44 teaser on YouTube November 5, 2015 promoting the November 12, 2015 full chapter release. Pepsi promoted the teaser across Twitter and Facebook. The teaser told fans where this Chapter was set and got talking about who might make a guest appearance. Next, Pepsi shipped exclusive Uncle Drew lockers to key media and influencers to get them posting the day before the release. Each locker included one of 150 pairs of Uncle Drew Nike Kyrie 1’ shoes, a hoodie, an Uncle Drew bobblehead and more. Finally, we released the full episode on YouTube November 12, 2015. Exclusive media coverage included Darren Rovell (ESPN), the Associated Press, USA Today and Hoop & Dime. For three weeks following the release, Pepsi loyalty members could enter for a chance to win an Uncle Drew locker of their very own.
Outcome
Uncle Drew Chapter 4 was one of the top 5 most viewed videos on YouTube in the month of November 2015. The episode received 684,000,000 PR impressions, 160,000,000 million social impressions and 273 media placements. The Uncle Drew sweeps was entered more than 51,000 times by Pepsi loyalty members during the three weeks following the release of the episode. To date, Uncle Drew Chapter 4 has over 8,500,000 views. The entire series has over 75,000,000 YouTube views and continues to be loved by fans and Pepsi consumers.
