1851. And Giuseppe Verdi trying to find the right word. Women are... Women are....
Execution
The challenge was to make a complex and cinematic storytelling period spot about the Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi and to be witnesses of the exact moment of inspiration for the lyrics of his 1851’s opera Rigoletto. While he was leaving Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna after meeting the emperor for its approval and traveling back to Italy to meet his beloved Giuseppina.
All this sounds amazing, but being originally an Internet piece, we had two problems to start: 15.000 dollars total budget, and that we live in Argentina…far away from Verdi’s crib….
The original scrip was just one interior, a dialogue between Giuseppe and his wife. Well thought since there isn’t exterior’s similar to those places in South America. Neither Italian speaking talent….
We decided to be historically correct anyway and try to cheat a multi-country production commercial with that budget.
In Austria we stole every image as if we were back in film school with a small crew (small crew = one person and a digital camera, the director).
For the Italian part of the spot we were three.
With the money we had we could afford the two actors, the tickets for the back sits on the Boeing, Mozzarella sticks and the devotional discount the manager from the Milano’s opera house “La Scala”, where we pray for the two costumes we needed.
Available light, small Cannon digital camera, a tripod, a sound recorder, and the good spirit of the Italian pedestrians to stop walking when we asked for.
