Background

There are more than 4,800 homeless people in the city of Barcelona, more than 1,100 of whom are sleeping rough on the streets. Being destitute has made them invisible to the public eye. Breaking this invisibility is key to changing their stories, transforming society's perception and breaking down the prejudices that surround them.

Arrels Fundació guides and looks after homeless people who find themselves in extreme cases of social exclusion; raises awareness regarding poverty in our surroundings; reports on unjust situations; and presents solutions to the administrations and civil society.

Since 1987, this NGO has accompanied more than 16,100 homeless people in Barcelona on their way to independence by providing housing, food, and social and medical attention. Arrels Fundació counts on the support of 68 working people, more than 400 volunteers, and around 5,900 associates and donors who collaborate to help it reach its goal: #nobodysleepingonthestreet
