Execution

In Kenya there is one doctor for every 10,000 patients, with more than 30m Kenyans in the hinterland with no or remote medical access. Kenya needed a doctor who could be called any time from anywhere. Thus was born Daktari 1525: By dialling Daktari 1525, customers can talk to a doctor anywhere, any time, and get medical advice 24-7. They get a chance to talk to specialised doctors, one-on-one, right from their handsets! On Wednesdays, the paediatricians are on call, while Fridays are for gynaecologists and obstetricians.

Outcome

So far, more than 85,000 lives have changed, and more people are touched, saved, and healed every day.Safaricom has had to stop promoting this product several times because of the load on the call-centre. The highest volume we have been able manage with stability is 2025 calls. Safaricom plan to expand this call centre and start communicating themes in a slightly wider area.On the business side, Safaricom maintained its low churn rate and market share despite the competitive market.
