Description
This ad presents the universe of ZombiU, a survival horror video game from Ubisoft Montpellier released exclusively for the Nintendo's Wii U console. We follow parallel progression of a virus and survivors struggling with zombies on epic freeze time.
Execution
The biggest technical challenge of the project was modeling, because of the freeze time. We had to obtain lot of accuracy and details on each 3D model. So we took lot of photographic references and we used 3D scanner to help our team to study weight of clothes and posing tensions to finish with something very natural.
We develop a tool to optimize global illumination calculation in freeze time scenes. That allows us to avoid flickering on our rendering and low down our average time calculation per frame.
The final shot was also a technical challenge. There was rain, a big vein growing on the character and character animation. Mixing all those animations was quite difficult, we used Particle-flow plug-in for the rain and the total polygons count was more than 15 millions in very big scenes.
