Write a short summary of what happens in the film.
The Two Lives of Sara’, Roche’s brand film on Multiple Sclerosis, tells the story of Sara’s life in two parallel realities – one where she gets a new treatment for MS, and another where she doesn’t.
Cultural / Context information for the jury
In Finland as in the most Western countries, MS disease patients usually get their treatment according to Current Care Guidelines. These guidelines don’t often include the newest treatments and they are drafted with strict budget. This means that especially in some forms of MS disease the symptoms are only mildly delayed.
The film gives information to patients, that there are alternatives for the treatment and they can request for better options.
Tell the jury about the creation of the original music track.
The film needed a score that would resonate with people who knew the illness from a distance and people who support loved ones dealing with it, but most importantly, one that felt authentic and sensitive to people suffering this debilitating condition.
Therefore it was crucial to be emotionally raw, without sentimentality. Delicate at first, giving the story space to breathe and bringing the viewer gently in on this emotional journey, picking up pace and gravity along the way and culminating in the final scenes: containing the grain of hope promised within the tagline ‘More Time’.
In addition to linear split-screen versions (cinema, online), the film has an interactive version (watch the demo film), where the viewer has the opportunity to switch between the two parallel realities. The interactive has two parallel scores: the gentler version with its emotional arc and in-tune instrumentation, and the alternate score reflecting the darker reality.
