Write a short summary of what happens in the film
Professional painters are seen as rough laborers, rather than craftsmen. In this film, we play off those blue collar clichés to celebrate the reality of painters’ passion. This is a character study about a painter who cares so much about his work, that we might wonder whether it’s sweat or tears dripping down his face while he labors under the hot sun. Passionate though he may be, he’s still a tough guy, so he might not like us wondering about whether they are tears.
Cultural / Context information for the jury
Professional painters are often seen as laborers, and not as craftsmen who work in an emotional business. But our homes are personal spaces, and painting is surprisingly emotional. Thankfully, you can be a tough looking painter and still have a big heart.
