OVERVIEW

Background

Diablo is one of the most successful franchises in video game history. And after 10 years without any new title, Blizzard is about to release the next one: Diablo Immortal, the first of the series for mobile. Our challenge was to make an infernal launch, considering the objective of taking millions of Diablo fans and gamers to the underworld.

Describe the creative idea

Such an evil game shouldn't be downloaded, it should be summoned. Then we created the first ever ritual to summon a game into smartphones, just by scanning any pentagram on the Earth.

We wanted to spread a lot of more portals to hell around the world, so we created 666 unique posters, with 666 pentagrams that could be used to summon Diablo.

Describe the execution

Our hero icon is the universal symbol of darkness. And we dared to hack it, turning pentagrams into portals to hell.

We built an A.I. from scratch, capable of scanning any pentagram in the world.

Then, we crafted 666 different evil posters, each one with its pentagram.

This way, with any of our 666 posters and its pentagrams, consumers could experience a summoning using their own smartphones.

It was the first time in human history that people could summon the darkness using a poster. Or 666.
