The film brings to life the most common sexual innuendo emoji combinations used when texting (donut and banana, eggplant and peach, finger and ok hand). And follows each couple and as they start to get intimate with each other.

We see the banana and donut in a parent’s bedroom, a peach and eggplant in an internship office, and the finger and OK hand in a dirty concert bathroom as they each hook up with each other. As things get sexier, we introducing a condom emoji to the scene, and instead of grinding to a halt, the condom makes things sexier, jumping in with each couple, turning all that foreplay into a steamy threesome.

The final frames call for everyone to “make foreplay a threesome” by adding a condom. And then drives to a URL to download the first-ever universal condom emoji keyboard.

“Sexting” is the term for sending sexual texts to someone via SMS, or dating app such as Tinder/Grindr/OkCupid. It consists of regular talking dirty, but also emoji usage to be clever and dirty. The most common emoji combinations to represent gay and/or straight sex are the banana and donut, the peach and the eggplant, and the finger and OK hands.

For the first time in a generation, sexually transmitted diseases are on the rise. Because, while talking and texting about sex has gotten easier, there is still no easy way to bring up condoms. There was no safe sex emoji or keyboard in any current smartphone operating system. And petitioning one takes 2 years. So we made one and then made it fun to use.

Bringing emojis to life required a delicate balance of beautiful filmmaking and cheeky sensibility.

Even though emojis only exist in the digital world, there was no CGI used. Every emoji was carefully brought to life with costumes, special attention made to the details of the angles and shading to be as accurate as possible. Contortionists were used to operate each emoji, and expert direction was needed to help them feel sexy while squeezed inside a crazy costume.

The set design, cinematography, and original music were all deigned to bring a sensual dark mood to the film, setting the sexual tone and helping people see emojis in a whole new way.
