Write a short summary of what happens in the film.
It’s said that there are only two certainties in life– death and taxes– but in this colorfully playful spot, TurboTax shows that filing taxes is no longer something to dread. People of all ethnicities, ages, and dance-levels can’t contain their excitement as they bounce to the rhythm of the new technological advances in the tax filing sphere. From elderly women at the craft fair to teenage goths at the park and even a mascot at a child's birthday party, the infectious nature of this highly energetic, music-driven spot will have you rethinking how you approach Tax Day.
Cultural / Context information for the jury
The director of the spot shows that Americans are all united through taxes - and dance - in this inclusionary and highly-infectious TV advertisement that also acts as a stylistic homage to the diversity of Americans. People from all walks of life, including demographics, races, and handicap abilities (one scene shows two deaf women who sign the lyrics while dancing) are equally thrilled about the easiness of filing their taxes online, which is a yearly requirement of all Americans. Even more fitting, this spot aired during the most-watched event in American sports, the 2020 NFL Super Bowl championship game.
Tell the jury anything relevant about the direction. Do not name the director.
The director pays tribute to a Southern-style aesthetic, specifically the highly infectious and repetitious nature of New Orleans hip hop, also referred to as Bounce music. The result is a stylish spot that plays as part TV advertisement, part music video hybrid. Quick choreography, catchy lyrics, and a generally sunny disposition all give this TurboTax ad its unique look and feel, setting it apart from other, more traditional advertisements in the financial business sphere.
