OVERVIEW

Why is this work relevant for Branded Content & Entertainment?

The Find Your MBC Voice Stage shows recently diagnosed patients, inspirational examples of women and men with mBC raising their voices, expressing themselves, and standing up despite their disease. It connects them through the shared stories and experiences of patients like them. It inspires and motivates those recently diagnosed patients to move beyond the initial stunned silence of their diagnoses, to find their voices, to spend time on Pfizer’s Find Your MBC Voice site learning about mBC, and to go have more informed conversations with their doctors.

Background

We began with a simple truth. The truth that when a person is diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer, they feel overwhelmed. They feel powerless, isolated, and invisible. They feel alone and scared. And they don’t know what to do. And even if they did know what to say, they don’t feel empowered to say it.

We were determined to show recently diagnosed women and men, that they’re not alone. That they’re not powerless. And that, with the right resources and encouragement, everyone diagnosed with mBC, can find her or his voice.

Describe the creative idea

We wanted to give real people with stage 4 cancer, a stage of their own.

Patients diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer (mBC) feel invisible and alone. The Find Your MBC Voice Stage is a literal and figurative platform we created to help change that.

In the film, individuals with mBC each take to her or his own unique stage to share beautiful, powerful, and inspirational stories from their own lives around finding their voices.

It’s about empowering patients with metastatic breast cancer to speak up. It’s about taking a disease no one talks about and giving it the spotlight.

Describe the strategy

When the world thinks about fighting breast cancer, most people think about pink ribbons and ballooned marches. That’s not the reality for people diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer.

There are roughly 150,000 women in the United States living with mBC, and the ones who have been recently diagnosed aren’t talking. They aren’t talking about their disease and they aren’t talking to their doctors about their treatment options. They’re overwhelmed by their diagnoses. They don’t realize that their doctors want them to participate in the conversation, and even if they did, they don’t have the information they need to have an informed discussion.

We built the Find Your MBC Voice site to empower and educate newly-diagnosed patients with the information they need to have that more informed conversation. We created the Find Your MBC Voice Stage to encourage and inspire them to speak up.

Describe the execution

The Find Your MBC Voice Stage is a platform and a beacon. Each unique set design was created to accent that individual’s story. The lighting and sound design we kept simple. We wanted the feeling to be intimate because the stories are intimate. We worked hard to keep the focus exactly where it should be. On our incredible speakers, and on their amazing and unique stories. We wanted the world to see them exactly as we see them. As inspirations.

Describe the outcome

At the time of this entry, there have been more than 1.93 million visits to the Find Your MBC Voice site. And more are coming every day.

Describe any restrictions or regulations regarding Healthcare/RX/Pharma communications in your country/region including:

We were required to have a Pfizer Peer Review Council legal, medical, and regulatory concept review, a review of the finished films by the Pfizer Peer Review Council (again legal, medical, and regulatory), and to include mandatory legal language at the end of each video.

Describe the target audience and why your work is relevant to them.

Our target audience is people who have been diagnosed (especially recently diagnosed) with stage 4, or metastatic breast cancer (mBC). Patients diagnosed with mBC feel invisible, powerless, and alone. We created Find Your MBC Voice to help change that.
