Newsstands are in crisis all over the world. In Brazil, a newsstand closed daily in 2018. But these small businesses have always been very important: they represented thousands of jobs, they were entry doors for new readers and are a true cultural heritage in the cities. For this reason, Santander decided to offer newsstands a new opportunity by creating a new business model. Where there was a newsstand, new services were added to generate new revenues. And all the visibility of the stall as a billboard became a long-term media contract with Santander. The We Stand For Stand project is more than an idea of a ambient media, it is our way of “walking the talk”, and really supporting a small business - what is a core value for the Santander brand.
Please outline the innovative elements of the work
In the we stand for newsstands we envision an outdoor media that actually helps businesses to prosper. That’s why we revitalized newsstands so they could become a new business model. The newsstand owners could choose from selected projects adapted for the local conditions: locksmith, tailor shop, flower shop, manicurist, cellphone repair and bank correspondent. This way instead of claiming we support entrepreneurs,
we want people to see an entrepreneur thriving.
