Description
Aids Help Association is Austria’s non-profit organisation for HIV/AIDS prevention.
Problem: two people a day are infected with AIDS. Reason: unprotected sex. Life saving message: no condom = suicide! Goal: motivate young target groups to raise sensibility towards safer sex without moralising.
Online Flash game 'Pleasure Island' at www.aids.at: Visit pleasure island, its blue skies and beautiful, open minded people. Choose the partner of your dreams, have fun! The dream partner is passionate, but not dumb – they allow only safe sex! The player collects condoms to defeat 'HIV-monsters'. As the score increases, leaves hiding the private parts of couples wither. Banners and html-mails, print ads, free cards & posters in bars promote the site to raise traffic. Total visits exceeded 40,000. Within 2 months - 6,000/week (normally 350).
Outcome
Total visits exceeded 40,000 within 2 months. Up to 6,000 visits a week were recorded to www.aids.at (normal/average week around 350). A remarkable result for a small country like Austria, especially for an NPO.
Due to very low production costs and free development of the online game (charity client), the current cost per visit is only 10 cents.
