Description
The BMW “M” brand is BMW’s high performance range of vehicles. Our brief was to create items to help define the BMW M cars’ space in the dealership. The solution had to be hard working and innovative. The M logo has a rich heritage, so we crafted it into a functioning furniture piece. The BMW M table consists of 4 aluminum modules. The pieces may be configured into a shelf, coffee table, nesting table, individual seating or bench. The M table enhances retail space and reinforces the M brand by giving it an almost sculptural presence.
Execution
While looking at the M form of the logo, it was something that came naturally. I first saw it as w geometric form that could become very sculptural. The geometric form was clean and had enough visual weight to create a 3-D piece. Initially it was designed as 3 nesting tables at various sizes that can to nested into each other to save on space. Unfortunately these tables did not stand well. As a result we used that one angular shape and used it on all four sides at alternating angles to create a stable piece of furniture.
Outcome
This is only a BMW dealership initiative only available to M certified dealers. These pieces are available to the public.
