Description

Sherwin-Williams takes us on a journey through the world of color, literally. In this spot, we visit the tulip fields of Holland, the Red Square in Russia, a Mexican village, a Chinese temple, the Statue of Liberty and the Golden Gate Bridge.

Where will color take you?

Execution

This spot benefited hugely from pre-production, as we spent most of our time developing the story before we put a pencil to it. We selected our locations based on their recognition, diversity and ability to be "colorful." And because this is the sixth spot of the campaign, we wanted to inject a little something new into it — a more active camera, more dynamic transitions and more detailed architecture.

Our first challenge was lighting, since at least half of the sets in this spot are upside down. But creating fluid, dynamic systems out of rigid, flat rectangular cards is always an obstacle. We have learned that the most successful simulations are those we can art direct, which means we spend more time planning and rigging. We went through numerous rigs to get the fields of Holland to blend into the tower of Saint Basil’s with the fluid action we wanted. The fire from the dragon also presented its fair share of issues: It had to blend two shots with different focal lengths, wipe, and reform into a sculpted torch, all while acting like fire.

The result is a journey that transports viewers to both exotic and familiar worlds of color, and asks them to begin a color journey of their own with the very best paint.
