Description
Brazil is now the main feature in its own show. Absorbing the remnants of a falsely constructed image, Brazil repositions itself within the global demand for myths of so-called ‘young’ countries. This feeds back onto a national environment pregnant with possibilities and a resilient, albeit timid, hope for the ever-evasive future.
But that which is never actualised tends to fall. That is Brazil’s plotline.
However, not all is bleak. Non-actualisation lends a certain richness to real life, inspiring truer and more visceral proposals. Actually, it is not uncommon for them to flourish just in order to counteract the obstacles to conventional existence.
Such proposals have a viral effect and are readily spotted by the public and opinion-formers.
By addressing realistic contents, the “branded entertainment” format can supposedly turn a traditional communication model into a more emotive link with people. That is, however, just a theory based on real case-studies.
Part of the meaning behind EAT AND THINK it to pose a critical evaluation of a model built on premises and sold as promises. It takes a different venue and provocatively exposes the contradictions between different idioms. With its emotions and strong convictions, people feel a true connection to it.
Execution
Assumptions were created from elements of the Brazilian popular cuisine that guided the entire project thinking. The lysergic structure of "roll cake" was the inspiring element, we took into consideration since the reason of its existence to the analysis of a supposed process of its creation. Then, we sought out to create nine similar proposals that culminated in tasting.
It took five years of study in the technical field of gastronomy, and 1 year in anthropological research to assemble it.
Design is present on everything in a transdisciplinary way. The food, bracket, history, and critical thinking get mixed.
Outcome
Snippets from the presentation text of the exhibition "Como Penso Como", made by the director of SESC São Paulo, the sponsoring institution.
"In our contemporaneity fluid, we add the standardization spread by the media to overlapping activities in short time, and having the ideal context to relegate to forgetfulness the traits that make our way of life asleep.
By making the dish an artistic creation, the exhibition 'Como Penso Como' take us to contemplation through a journey into the gastronomic universe, passing through the sensory experience and the tasting itself, food is inseparable from life." Danilo Santos de Miranda
