Background
Swiss Life is the oldest life insurance group in Switzerland. The company has stood for stability and security since 1857 and accompanies its customers throughout a lifetime. The intention was to recall this in our fast-paced times.
Idea
We sought out the customer who has been insured by Swiss Life the longest: Hans Knecht. His policy has been running for 100 years - and is still valid. We honoured the 101st birthday of this most loyal customer on June 7, 2018 in a special way.
Strategy
Hans Knecht’s favourite newspaper is the renowned “Neue Zürcher Zeitung”. Since its founding in 1780, it is generally considered one of the leading newspapers in Switzerland and in the German-speaking part of Europe. That’s why we placed a big surprise in this newspaper for Hans Knecht’s 101st birthday. Thus we made the jubilarian a joy. And at the same time we called 253’000 opinion leaders into consciousness: Swiss Life is a reliable partner for a whole long life.
Execution
The greatest attention in every newspaper is undoubtedly paid to the front page. That’s why we arranged for the entire edition of the newspaper to appear with the original front page from the day Hans Knecht was born: June 7, 1917. With a corresponding portrait of the healthy pensioner on the first page inside.
This became possible through a close cooperation with the editors-in-chief and the publisher of the newspaper. It was the first time in its more than 200-year history that the “Neue Zürcher Zeitung” did not appear with the current front page.
Outcome
- An emotional birthday surprise: the newspaper was
delivered to Hans Knecht on that day by the CEO himself.
- A newspaper that caught the eye – at hundreds of
newsagents and delivered to thousands of mailboxes.
- 253,000 readers who now know: Swiss Life has
been serving satisfied customers for over 100 years
and is a reliable partner for a whole long life.
