OVERVIEW

Description

It was in 2015 that the swank and elitist Delhi state government was replaced by a people’s chief minister: Mr. Arvind Kejriwal: a complete outsider to political powerhouses. A man used to leading marches and sitting in protest (dharnas) against governmental policies was catapulted into office. Once sworn in, this accessible and simple chief minister made it possible for TV and radio networks to do humour pieces, caricatures and the like – although lampooning powerful people in office is not part of the political landscape in India. In this piece, breakfast presenter Rohit mimics Arvind Kejriwal eerily accurately, and the character is called Dharna Kumar – which translates to Mr. Protestor. This character is used by the radio station to highlight useless, regressive or ridiculous events from around the country with a twist of humour.
