Description

Structure of the site:The site was created in observance of the WAI (Web Accessibility Initiative) guidelines established by the World Wide Web Consortium to create standards, techniques and programmes that will guarantee full access to the web by disabled persons. The site was developed along three lines:• Use of HTML source code• Design of navigation and organisation of contents based on: sequential reading, clarity, simple and concise language• Graphics interface based on: correct use of colours and contrast, of fonts, of images and graphics elements.Specific Objectives:To design and create a site to promote an event which is compatible with the communication campaign and which invites web surfers to learn to see. It is designed therefore to increase public awareness of the issues of accessibility for disabled persons.Target:Italian public opinion in general, all people who are concerned about issue of accessibilityStrategy:The idea was to launch a true and genuine challenge to the ordinary "able" web surfer. The site was constructed in observance of WAI guidelines and is perfectly accessible to non sighted persons, however it is intentionally disorienting for sighted persons. The challenge is for the surfer to abandon the usual use of sight and to navigate the web just as a non sighted person does. What characterises www.dialogonelbuio.it is the way it is used. It is a true and genuine reversal of expectations, which plays on paradoxical situations which only become intelligible if you do not rely too much on sight alone. Some aids to navigation have been provided which, if used, return surfers to a world of more familiar sensations designed to soften the strong impact of the disorienting effect.
