From 2014 to 2016, Pakistan faced an energy crisis. Its megacities were hit with rolling power outages lasting up to eighteen hours a day, paralyzing everyday life in a country of 200 million people. High population growth, burgeoning urban centers and an increase in manufacturing placed a strain on the national grid. And yet, no large scale energy projects had been implemented over the last decade, leading to a 5GW shortfall of electricity.

Pakistan needed to plug the gap with mega power solutions at scale, and fast. But it could not do this alone. GE became a vital partner in bridging this energy gap. Global collaboration between technologists in the US, logistical experts in China and engineers from all over the world would bring the technology and expertise together to secure energy for millions of people across Pakistan.
