Description

We wanted to combat all the negativity at the end of 2016 and create a campaign that would help people feel positive about the year gone by. So just in time for Christmas, SapientRazorfish gave our clients (and the world) the gift of the Good News Feed.

The idea? To create a place where people could look back on all the good, funny, positive and uplifting news stories of 2016. A place that allowed them remember all the good stuff that happened in 2016 and realise that the year hadn’t been so bad after all.

Our aim – to leave them with that warm, fuzzy feeling that put them in the perfect frame of mind to celebrate the festive season and rediscover the warmth and joy that normally accompanies the festive season.

Execution

In just two weeks and with an extremely small budget, we managed to make Good News Feed a reality.

First, we a created the feed itself (a mobile-first responsive site). The design took cues from popular news feed sites like Buzzfeed and Vice news to create an experience that was familiar to consumers and easy to use. Meanwhile, we handpicked our top 100 news stories of 2016 to populate the site when it went live. The site pulled tagging and imagery from the original news source and them pulled it onto our feed.

We also encouraged users to submit their own favourite stories by copying and pasting a URL. Alternatively, they could simply tweet their story using #GoodNewsFeed and it would automatically be submitted to the site. These were then moderated before going live onto the Good News Feed.

We also created a launch film to promote and support the site.

Outcome

SOCIAL:

From December 19th through to January 8th, SapientRazorfish & #GoodNewsFeed cumulatively earned over 600K impressions, almost 40K engagements, 213 mentions and over 1000 click-throughs to the GoodNewsFeed website & YouTube page. The video had 9,000 likes on Facebook.

Our top 3 mentions came from @Dabby1220, @cogsagency & @HopwoodMedia with a combined following of almost 22K.
