Execution

Intention/Purpose: Innovation provides a business solution. It harnesses existing platforms (twitter) with progressive technologies (powering objects through tweets). This will impact cultural behavior by fulfilling a long standing fantasy of having Happy Hours in your own hands. Speaking of fantasies, also let you turn back time. Brand prides itself on providing unique customer experiences - by letting users turn back time to extend happy hours indefinitely it gives users another fun, unique experience.

This is an innovation based on an existing technique of powering objects through tweets.

Technology: Open source hardware tech used. Twitter API to capture the tweet data. Python was used as the back-end language to post data to a centralized remote server. The open source hardware API which was connected to the web fetched all the data. The algorithm programmed in the microcontroller analysed the data and controlled the gear mechanism of the clock to turn it backwards.

Next Stage: This tweet powered clock can be sold as a product solution to different bars who can organize Happy Hour Rewinds at different times.

Innovation has not received any investment.

Outcome

This clock can be turned into a product model which can be sold to different bars who can organize Happy Hour Rewinds at different times.

In a single night more than 250 tweets were sent which resulted in Happy Hours going on till 12am (closing time) even though the clock just showed 9pm!

Not only did this result in significant word-of-mouth for the brand but bar sales shot up by 40%

The idea received extensive coverage, appearing on NDTV Prime, Adage India and was also featured on FWA.

The project was named after the hashtag Happy Hours Rewind and it was Turquoise Cottage’s way of setting itself apart from the crowd while delivering on the great experience they’re known for.
