Description

Amnesty International decided to start from that song making it current again, just like the fight against injustice is current. With the support of Ennio Morricone and Joan Baez, we made a new version of the song, but we didn’t choose just any singer.

We asked people that could deeply understand the meaning of that song to sing it: victims of violations, persecuted, discriminated... Even from countries were freedom of expression is compromised, they were able to send us their videos.

Execution

After collecting videos from victims of violations, we asked Roberto Saviano, Italian journalist under death’s threat by the mafia and that lives under police protection, to join the cause. From a secret location he launched a call asking everyone to sing.

Hundreds of people answered the call, even famous Italian artists, singing from their houses, in TV and even during live concerts.

Outcome

After 50 years the song is famous again and thanks to its anthem, the fight for human rights is back at the center of attention.

With just 10.000 euros of media investment, we've generated:

64 million of media impressions

4,3 million dollar of earned media

1,4 million dollar of donations raised for amnesty during the campaign
