A big part of the vampire design was that of course, immortal beings would pick up influences from everywhere and anywhere. From his studio in Berlin, Playdis, composer Georg von dem Bussche created a score comprising of six different pieces that would fit perfectly in this three-act structure. Instead of using recurring melodies or a leitmotif, he established coherence through style. He aimed for an electronic, modern and analogue sound that would be able to organically incorporate elements from genres like opera, traditional African and classical music. To achieve this, he worked with several accomplished artists from different backgrounds – Iranian hip-hop, British soul, German techno, Italian ambient – and carefully put them together in close accordance with Sebastian and Antoni. The most important thing that all three parties agreed on however was that the emotion and momentum of the score was the beating heart of this immortal film.
