Description
A new form of non-traditional art serves as a metaphor for film creation as we follow an eccentric, rifle-toting New-Age punk and her butler through a grassy black-and-white field where they pause to shoot a round of skeet. Clay pigeons have been replaced with homemade color bombs, allowing the sharp-shooting punk to explosively transform the sky into a magnificent multicolored art piece.
Execution
The "Ophelia" track was chosen because it was doing things that the images were not, acting as a counterweight to the visual. The obvious choice would have been to go with a punk rock track that matched the aesthetic of the lead character, but we wanted something that spoke to the other side of her character, the Artist in her. The a cappella voice suggests that this may be our lead character's thoughts, which are quite softer than her appearance. We fell in love with the track early on, before we even shot the piece, and it completely shaped the edit. The moment she yells, "Pull!," for instance, there is a great dramatic break in the song which really amplified her scream and provided the overall transition into the montage sequence. The song is also a waltz, in 3/4 time, which is unusual for modern music, but that waltz shuffling provided the incentive to shoot the whole spot in slow motion, 60fps.
