Background

The Newport Beach Film Festival is one of the oldest and largest film festivals in the United States, and the closest in proximity to the entertainment capitol of the world, Hollywood. With a shift in schedule due to the recent pandemic, it's now held in October of each year, making it the launching pad for studios looking to promote their films for annual industry awards, including the Golden Globes, the SAG Awards, and the Oscars. The brief was to create a simple, visual, striking concept that would migrate from OOH to print to ticket graphics to placards. The idea objective was to capture both the NBFF's love of cinema and celebrate its incredible, coveted location, Newport Beach.

Outcome

The simple “starfish” execution proved to be a universal hit, conveying the objective of NBFF’s love of cinema and celebrating the festival’s location, Newport Beach, in equal and memorable parts. The simple, graphic design was utilized on everything from OOH to the ticket design, creating a powerful consistency that was the cornerstone of the campaign’s strength. Regarding numbers, social media followers were up 10% YOY, impressions on FB and IG touched 2.5 million, and attendance was up almost 10%, as the festival continues to recover from the pandemic.
