Description

Our video focused on Lidl giving one Irish man the ultimate opportunity to surprise his ‘Mammy’. We flew him home from Perth with his one year old son who his ‘Ma’ never met. He hadn’t been home in three years since his brother’s funeral. We documented their journey from Perth to his home in Dublin with his son, creating a beautiful short that filled viewers with emotion and tears of happiness. The Lidl flowers were a subtle yet key feature in the piece.

The video starts with mobile phone footage while he was leaving his family in Perth and the journey to Dublin, Ireland. It is interlaced with him telling his story of how difficult life has been for his mother over the past few years and how much it means to him to be coming home. The video peaks as his mother get's the surprise of her life at her doorsteps. She tells the camera that "this is best thing that has ever happened to me!".

Execution

The Lidl flowers were a subtle yet key feature in the piece. We seeded the video to Lidl’s social channels before Mother’s Day, sparking a nationwide outpouring of love for Mum’s.

Outcome

- It spread internationally and featured on all major Irish publisher websites for free and also generated radio airplay

- Both unit sales and turnover were up significantly on the Deluxe Rose & Lily Bouquet featured in the video with allocation already increased for 2016.

- Almost every single comment was positive and was cited by industry experts as the best in class example of Mother’s Day Advertising (http://jrnl.ie/1985503)

- Through a clever use of online video, we got the nation to feel real emotion.
