OVERVIEW

Background

We’re playing with the perception that video games are a passive activity, where players spend hours at a time sedentary, staring at a screen. This stereotype is embodied by the couchbound boyfriend, idly fiddling with his handheld device. He stands in stark contrast to the gamers playing in Oculus Rift. As they take on challenges in virtual worlds, we see them moved by adventure, approaching the rigor of a full-on cardio workout. The physicality of VR gaming is further celebrated by our tagline “Change the Game.” It’s a call to action for gamers everywhere to experience the next level of play.

Execution

A young woman walks into her living room, glancing at her boyfriend on the couch gaming on a handheld device. A hip-hop track thumps as she gears up with an Oculus Rift. Wielding a pair of Touch Controllers, she chooses a game with the tap of a virtual button. The brand’s signature rift tears through the fabric of reality to reveal an immersive world of play. She steps through and transforms into her in-game character to challenge a titanic monster. Quick cuts reveal she’s not the only one playing in this new reality – a diverse group of gamers balletically use their bodies to dodge bullets, fly in zero-g, and unleash the powers of Marvel superheroes. Finally, as the music crescendos, we come full circle to see the young woman strike a heroic pose symbolizing the physicality of VR gaming with Oculus. Endslate: “Change the Game.” / “Step into Rift.”
