In the film “Overcome,” Stephen Curry, star of the Golden State Warriors, is seen thinking about all of the criticism thrown his way. Then he enters a sensory-deprivation tank where he plunges into the depths of his mind. We see him struggle in a surreal underwater world of his imagination, full of torpedoing basketballs and hoops that move like jellyfish, as he twists and turns until he screams. Suddenly, the chaos stops and Curry settles his mind with a deep exhale and meditates on three words: calm, strong, focused. Curry then rises above his fears to the surface, and opens his eyes to find himself back in the tank. The film ends with Stephen confidently walking down a tunnel toward the bright lights of a basketball arena, as the crowd cheers him on. A title appears over the closing scene, “Train the mind. The body will follow.”
