This radio campaign demonstrates the key benefit of the Philips Series 5000 shaver – namely, a really close shave – by playing off the figurative expression, ‘a close shave’, meaning a narrow escape from danger or disaster. In this commercial, a bus driver transporting a group of senior citizens back to the old age home, describes his close shave moment when the bus he is driving narrowly misses crashing into a train. The listener gets to experience all the entertaining detail of what the bus driver is seeing – including flying knitting needles and dislodged false teeth – as his vehicle skids towards the impending collision. At the end we are reminded that even though this was an extremely close shave, it’s still not as close as a Philips Series 5000 shave.
