Execution

Outsmart the Market is a game that simulates the market using several decades of real data. Players are dropped in on a random day in history, playing through several years of data within a 30-second time period.

Outsmart the Market delivers real news headlines throughout the game to replicate the pressure that 24/7 news coverage puts on investors. Lines like “Market on its way to be as strong as ever?” and “Housing prices drop dramatically” tempt players to get in and get out multiple times, when staying in the whole time actually yields the best results.

Outcome

Since the Challenge Lab Tools launched, they’ve taken on a life of their own on social media. The tools have earned over 3,600 Likes. They’ve been shared and retweeted over 500 times and have fostered a genuine conversation, with more than 2,450 comments. Most importantly, Challenge Lab Tools motivated 4,000+ people to use our find a financial advisor tool and actually start making plans for their retirements. All of which goes to show that just rethinking the way we approach financial tools can actually help people to start thinking differently and doing something about their finances.
