Description

A young girl and her older teenage sister sit on a bench as people walk by. The teenager is absorbed in her phone, closed off from the wonder of the world, when the young girl offers her an OREO cookie. She takes it and opens the cookie, at which point she and her younger sister are transported to a fantastic roller-skating rink, where characters of every age, race and personality are skating together to the beat of the song. A little nervous at first, the girls are welcomed by everyone, and soon forget their inhibitions. By the end of the spot, they’ve joined in with the crowd—and reclaimed their sense of wonder and possibility.

Execution

3D animation was chosen for this project. Because the film would be used in diverse markets, the animation needed to reflect a broad range of ethnicities without appearing heavy-handed or defaulting to generic, stereotyped characters—so there were many rounds of character development. The animation also needed to communicate the texture and feel of the product, which while well-known in some countries, is less established in others. So special attention was paid to developing texture and lighting the product. Finally, the animation needed to appeal strongly to adults, without feeling overly sophisticated.
