OVERVIEW

Description

Every year a different design approach is required to ensure that the book remains original, creative and innovative. The chosen design must be appropriate to and complement every stamp subject in the book. Celebrating subjects as diverse as Comic books to Classic Locomotives, coming up with a theme that would work well for all 12 subjects, and being varied enough to remain interesting were the key deliverables for this book. As the Yearbook was in its 29th edition, coming up with something that hadn’t been done before was a real challenge.

Execution

We came up with the theme of ‘behind-the-scenes’. We wanted to give the reader a unique insight into the subjects and so designed the first spread of each chapter to open with a dynamic and intriguing behind-the-scenes shot of a significant location relevant to the stamp subject.

We commissioned an award-winning photographer, whose atmospheric photography successfully captures the essence of every subject and makes the viewer feel they are getting an insider’s view.

To add another level of interest, significant objects within each photograph are highlighted using a key down the right-hand side of each opening spread.

Outcome

Though it is difficult to quantify the success of products such as these where there is limited dialogue with the customer, commercially, the Yearbook has been very successful and the feedback that we have received has all been very positive.
