Background

When it comes to building brand equity, our ongoing challenge is, how do we make the Cadbury brand synonymous with generosity?

We’re in year 5 of our campaign - with previous films including Mum's Birthday, Fence, Bus and Garage. We have a powerful formula for amazing storytelling films which drive equity in generosity but we wanted to keep it fresh and find a slightly different twist on them. Speakerphone stays true to the formula but explores the rarely expressed moment in a father-son relationship where the relationship dynamic starts to change, & the child becomes both a friend & confidant.

Execution

One scene. One actor. The entire film hinges on his performance so getting the right actor was critical. There are no theatrics, no SFX trickery or music to heighten the emotion. Just one authentic performance to tell the story. We looked for our dad first and the son second, making sure that their relationship felt genuine, despite only ever hearing him on the phone.
