Description
The designer chose to create a bound journal--or survey--that is universal in theme and global in sensibility. It should have significant longevity, both in content and design style. It should feature a world-class Creative, a true citizen of the global arts. Securing an appropriate artist for this inaugural issue required careful consideration. Additional challenges included a limited budget and shortened timeline, along with a very high creative bar: the audience is the Agency network itself.
Execution
Typeface selection played a critical part in Stellar's success. To create a timeless feel, the designer concentrated on typefaces with a bold but refined presence and great intention. Bauer Bodoni captured the voice of the journal for the Stellar title, mainly due to its stateliness. For body copy, the serif Minion Pro and sans serif Neue Haas Grotesk were each deployed for their innate ability to elegantly reference an editorial feel, expressing journalistic details through a modern lens. Working in concert, this suite of beautiful, smart, distinguished typefaces gave life to Stellar with their collaborative voice.
Outcome
Because the piece was awarded only to Star Reacher recipients, the journal was produced in a limited edition of 200. The piece is now coveted as a symbolic expression of creative inspiration for a world-class agency. Multiple requests for re-prints from people throughout the Agency network are now being considered.
