Execution

The objective of the “Super Formula” is to change the negative perception children have of chemotherapy and to provide positive meaning to the medication through these groundbreaking covers.

These covers were especially conceived by the agency for A.C. Camargo Cancer Center (a leading private hospital in the area). They are completely unique, a new and original product. In order to develop them, the team worked with doctors and designers to find the best possible material, shape, and final concept. It is the first time chemotherapy has had a pediatric version.

These covers are easy to sterilize and comply with all hospital standards. Their design allows for easy handling, so as not to interfere with the routine of nurses. They were developed using the “Vacuum Forming” technique, in batches of 150 pieces, to serve the entire pediatric ward. They are manufactured with long-lasting material – non-disposable - which is reusable and does not generate hospital waste.

Brazil’s National Health Surveillance Agency - ANVISA is responsible for this product and controls it. The next step is its implementation in other hospitals that specialize in pediatric cancer treatment in Brazil and around the world.

It is a low-cost idea due to the materials chosen, the manufacturing process, and the fact that Warner Bros., which is also a client of the agency, is a partner in this project.

Outcome

The objective was to change the negative perception children have of chemotherapy, increasing their belief in the cure, their acceptance of the treatment, and their chances of recovery.

The idea is getting the attention of other hospitals that specialize in pediatric oncology, and there is a project underway to expand this innovation to other institutions.

The 15 pediatric rooms and the 5 outpatient departments have permanently implemented this idea, instantly changing the perception children have of the treatment by having them receive a “Super Formula” instead of chemotherapy. The project, which was launched on March 11, has also provided the hospital with a new image, with superheroes all around the pediatric ward. Weeks later, comic books and animations arrived to give these covers a more powerful meaning, with the superheroes themselves as protagonists.
