Description

ITC Classmate is India's No.1 Notebook Brand, targeted primarily at students between the age of 6 to 18. Classmate Notebooks are used by millions of school children in India everyday. Classmate as a brand aims to make the whole process of learning, fun.

Execution

English is the most preferred medium of instruction in India, especially in the urban areas. In a hyper competitive and globalised world, India`s English skills have given it a great advantage. But this advantage has come at a cost, India is a land of 1000+ languages and many of them are suffering, millions of school children today don't even know to read or write in their mother tongue. All efforts at introducing local languages as a part of the school curriculum have met with mixed results, as it only puts more pressure on the already overburdened kids.

So while for today's kids, Indian languages may be a thing of past, what they truly love and are extremely comfortable with is technology. This generation is India's first truly digital generation. In a country where the mobile penetration is almost 100% in urban areas, why not use technology to get kids to engage with classmate.

Outcome

Hence to appeal to them, we created the Talking Alphabet.

Classmate converted ordinary notebooks into a powerful new medium to help children learn different Indian mother tongues. We created the Talking Alphabet Notebook series, a series of 6 regional scripts with inbuilt QR code in every letter. Each scan reads the letter and tells you the exact pronunciation.

The children’s love for the mother tongue grew. So did the notebooks demand.
