OVERVIEW

Background

• Surfrider Foundation is a worldwide not-for-profit organization dedicated to the protection and enhancement of lakes, rivers, oceans, waves and the coastline. Founded in 1990 by a handful of local surfers, today it gathers over 12 000 members in Europe and is represented in 9 countries through its volunteer chapters.

Well-known for their « Ocean Initiatives », a european program to tackle the marine litter issue through education, citizen science and lobby, Surfrider needs to convince new members to join the movement beside the organization.

• This year, the objective is :

Renew the audience, raise awareness to a broader audience and encourage people to take action beyond Ocean Initiatives, and this despite the fact nobody has never enough time to act !

Give people new reasons and new tools to connect with Surfrider.

Idea

The First Book crafted by animals and tailored to Kids to raise awareness about the Ocean.

We decided to create books made of wood, carved by marine animals according to the story. These books are found on a beach of France and is a cry for help to save the Ocean.

The story is written by animals who live on a wonderful island now a victim of plastic pollution…

They need help, ask children to spread the message around the world...

The Island has no more time …so through the book, they give kids a mission : to read the books everywhere to make noise, to raise awareness, and make the change happen…

By reading the book at school, libraries, radio, TV and press, the kids turn themself into the voice of the ocean . They finaly grabed the deputies attention, who decided to meet them with the tale.

Strategy

The Younger people are, the more they are willing to take action.

- 94% of the young generation (18-23yo) is really worried about the future

of the environment while, for adults The « Environment » cause is only ranked N°10 to 18 among the most important topic for people).

- Children are more and more active : i.e the walk for Climat has brought together thousand of people in the street.

- Our Campaign is targeting the very young generation who is the most concerned about the environmental issues but who has no tool to act.

Execution

March 2019 : Launch of the campaign

- A wave of books has swept over a french beach on march 2019, in Normandy. Only a few children, surprised and excited by this amazing discovery, were able to read the book. They became our first ambassadors.

April : PR

Readings after readings, the book became noticed by media.

- Radio Nova with Nova Book Box, , France Culture, BFM, ADN, Konbini….`

PR after PR, the French Parliament decided to give a voice to the children

May 15th

Kids will meet deputies of the French Parliament and the books will continue their traveling through french schools and libraries.

Outcome

- Best Reach vs budget Investement : over 2 Millions people

- Saling for the book is under discussion
