Description

‘Together Again’ is the touching story of a one man’s journey to reconnect with his wife, who is suffering from dementia - with the help of an Admiral Nurse from Dementia UK.

A man stands, looking out to sea, towards a remote lighthouse where we see his wife sitting, confused and alone. There seems no way the two can be reunited until a boat appears, helmed by an Admiral Nurse. Together the Nurse and the Husband undertake a difficult voyage, during which they collect a series of objects including a gramophone record. Finally the Nurse and the Husband reach the Wife. Initially she seems hesitant, even scared. But, using the objects retrieved from the sea, the Husband tries to stir memories. Finally, when the record is played we see a magical moment of recognition in her eyes and we end on the couple dancing together in the lighthouse.

Execution

The film was created using After Effects, Maya and Houdini and edited in Premiere Pro. Given the scale of the project and the charity’s tight budget, the key challenge was to use economical animation yet create a film that still delivered engagement, involvement and emotion through its epic scale.
