The device (TRIP BOOK): It consists of a plate that was developed to control the operation of the GPS added, since the traditional e-readers there is no GPS, and of a motion sensor. This plate is connected to the main plate of the e-reader through a serial port, exchanging position and movement information. Thus we can determine the location of the device and deliver the contextualized content for each city. It was also created an application that runs on a custom Linux, made to read this new format of ePub book (which brings stories based on geolocation).

TRIP BOOK was given to a special group of Smiles clients to improve their travel experience.

The app: We have also extended this “experience” for mobile and for tablets, using the original GPS of these devices. It connects to Trip ePUB to download new books and update the stories.

This app was designed for everyone that was curious to live this new experience: Smiles clients and prospects.

TRIP ePUB: It is the platform developed for writers creating their books based on geolocation. Here the writer sends their stories and define the cities where it can take place as well the variables that changes depending on the location. The variables, such as hotels, POI (Point of Interest), restaurants and temperature, are updated by APIs from services like TripAdvisor, Yelp, Weather Channel and Google Maps.

When the reader downloads the book via app, the TRIP ePUB receives the information of that specific moment. For instance, what is the best restaurant in Paris according to TripAdvisor, or which is the most charming hotel in Rome.
