OVERVIEW

Description

We asked SA racing champion, Gugu Zulu, to propose a wager to Mika Häkinnen. That he would train a complete novice (business entrepreneur, Vusi Thembekwayo) in one week to get within 5 seconds of his best lap time. At stake was Mika’s prized classic 1958 Mercedes 300SL Roadster. Gugu took to social media to attract the public and Mika’s attention and as a true gentleman, Mika accepted the terms of the wager immediately.

We had to train Vusi to become a racing driver in just 7 days. So we had to do some pretty extreme training to get him up to speed, which made for 3 gripping webisodes. The 4th webisode featured the final race with the big man himself, Mika Häkkinen. The full-length film was broadcast simultaneously on national TV.

The results of the training were astounding, yet the question remained, was it enough?

Outcome

The results of the training were astounding, yet the question remained, was it enough? But that didn’t deter Mika’s final decision. And, in true Johnnie Walker fashion, the wager was concluded in the most gentlemanly way.
