To inspire young people to challenge themselves to become masters in their craft, we compared the apprenticeship with the tuition of a Kung Fu Disciple. A long and demanding journey, that lets you reach for total perfection. Instead of being scared off by hard work, we wanted them to see it as cool.

In Germany, most traditional crafts are organized under a governing body, called „Das Handwerk“. And in most of these traditional crafts, you can achieve the title „Master“. But achieving this title is hard work and less and less Kids are choosing this difficult path for their future. The Task was to make this path attractive again.

Voice Over Master:

“What Tool will make me a Master? Tool? It is merely a piece of metal.

Your Blade will only be as sharp as your mind. And without a mind,

you will be nothing.”

His Master shouts: “Nothing!” calmer: “Now look at me.”

With one swift motion to the client’s hair, the master cuts a perfect fringe.

“You Fool!”

Voice Over Master:

“I will teach you the merciless way of the blade. Will you be able to defy the rain, like the lotus blossom?”

Mirko performs his perfected fringe technique on a mountain. A sacred training ground.

His last Trial is held on a narrow cormorant-fisher boat.

He balances on it, wielding his scissor, his master behind him.

We hear a fly buzzing. Mirko focuses and cuts into the air. The fly is no longer buzzing.

A Pony on a small patch of grass behind them declares: “you are ready.”

Now they are back in the barbershop and Mirko has to perform his perfect fringe technique on a customer.

His Master is faithful:

“Now show me, what you have learned.”

Mirko swiftly cuts her hair in one perfect motion and instantly, her fringe looks great.

His Master is pleased and nods.

Mirko stands confidently in front of us, holding his scissors. Behind him, four more craftsmen emerge, all proudly presenting their tools.
