Describe the creative idea
Just how do you make a 103-year-old nut...er legume, relevant during the biggest game of year, on a platform that didn't even exist when he was invented? Planters gave their mascot Mr. Peanut a modern makeover and took him to Twitter during the biggest night of the year. He didn't just live-tweet but re-created moments from the game, the halftime show and the commercials all in real-time so he could share his wise and witty POV with the world. What would normally require weeks of production was condensed down into minutes and allowed Mr. Peanut to be the belle of the ball, game.
Describe the execution
Using motion capture technology, we outfitted an actor (the exact height Mr. Peanut - 5'2") with a completely responsive suit, positioned him in front of a live stream of the Super Bowl, and waited for Crunch Time. Why? Becuase Mr Peanut is always there for you in Crunch Time. Whether our animated Mr. Peanut was re-creating the iconic "bye-bye-bye" dance from the Backstreet Boys during the Doritos commercial, showing the internet what his version of a "nut sack" looks like, or giving Scientology the side-eye, our actor would instantaneously re-create actions or reactions to what was happening live at the Super Bowl.
Along with specialized animation technology, the sensors on our actor's suit captured his motion (MoCap) and automatically rendered Mr. Peanuts iconic character over his performance - turning our monocled mascot into a real-time Twitter phenomenon that could dance, tackle, and even fly (over a scene from Game of Thrones).
