MCCANN ENTERPRISE, London / NEOM / 2022
Overview
Credits
Write a short summary of what happens in the film.
The vision for the film was to transport our audience not just through the physical space, but time as well – beginning at the dawn of mankind and continuing past a series of motifs that chart significant moments of change from history.
From there, we journey through twelve scenes (each representing the sectors of NEOM that will shape change in the future) before exiting into the wide-open expanse of NEOM’s desert.
The film is shot as a continuous backwards pull-through: a series of scenes artfully blended and edited through clever transitions give the illusion of one single uninterrupted shot.
Rather than trying to depict the place as it will be, the film focuses on NEOM’s purpose – a place conceived and designed to foster change and accelerate human progress. A place Made To Change.
Cultural / Context information for the jury
As this film was intended for an international audience, no cultural terms or references that could be misunderstood were used. Two versions of the picture were created, one for international audiences and one for GCC audiences with the only differences being two scenes where actors in the GCC edit appeared in more traditional Arab clothing. The ad was created in 7 languages (English, Arabic, German, French, Indian, Japanese, Russian)
Tell the jury anything relevant about the edit. Do not name the editor.
Due to the complex nature of the individual shots, their VFX, and the fact this film needed to appear to be a single shot, the edit became a collaborative effort between the editor and VFX teams. An
offline with selected takes and timing was passed to the VFX team who created the transitions between scenes and effectively erased any cuts the film had. A second version was created for the GCC region with key actors dressed in traditional Arab clothing,
and this version needed to have identical timings. 8 additional cut-downs were also created with the same requirement of appearing to be a single shot. These were addressed before shooting began through careful writing to avoid any cuts in the action.
