The film is actually 30,000 films—one for each runner in the 2018 Boston Marathon. The personalized highlight films tell the narrative of each racer’s journey along 26.2 miles, from beginning to end. Every element of the film is personalized, starting with the racer’s name, bib number, their wave and start time. The story progresses just as the race does, showing each runner’s individual split times alongside shots of them at those checkpoints. The personalized clips are woven together with narrative footage from the full marathon, featuring iconic landmarks and memorable moments in the race. The film ends with a personal clip of each runner crossing the finish line and lands on a final frame representing adidas, the Boston Athletic Association (BAA) and “30 Years Strong” to acknowledge the 30th anniversary of adidas’ sponsorship.

There are marathons, and then there’s Boston. It’s the world’s oldest marathon and one of the most well-known. It’s a notoriously difficult course, and it’s incredibly competitive to qualify for. It’s also a symbol of our nation’s strength, after the 2013 bombings. It is a legendary event. As a runner in this event, you’re becoming part of the legend. The film captures the Boston Marathon experience and references key landmarks in the Boston Marathon race course, like Scream Tunnel and Heartbreak Hill—infamously difficult portions of the race where the energy of the crowd helps carry the runners through. It honors the incredible achievement of every runner who participates in this race.
