CampaignDescription
Technology has made it easier for young people to hook-up. We use the same action of hooking up—via free WiFi—to teach them about the dangerous consequences of their actions.
We set up WiFi routers with no password protection in bars, clubs and gyms. When a user hooks up, a Trojan Horse computer program infects their phone. Just like the disease, the first symptoms appear days later through a pop-up ad on their Facebook and Instagram feeds. The ad reminds them of the unsafe hook-up they made days ago, pushing them to get tested for HIV.
Execution
We set up WiFi routers with no password protection in bars, clubs and gyms. When a user hooks up, a Trojan Horse computer program infects their phone. Just like the disease, the first symptoms appear days later through a pop-up ad on their Facebook and Instagram feeds. The ad reminds them of the unsafe hook-up they made days ago, pushing them to get tested for HIV.
Outcome
A 200% increase in site visits versus the year before, leading to a 20% increase in the number of people getting tested.
Strategy
As our target market was primarily millenials, we tapped a prime commodity in their daily lives -- internet. By providing these hotspots, we were able to infiltrate and "infect" their feeds with reminders to get themselves tested.
Synopsis
The Philippines has one of the fastest growing HIV epidemics in the world.
With the rise in social media as well as matchmaking apps, hooking-up among millenials has become so much easier. Unfortunately, it has also hastened the spread of HIV, due to lack of proper education on how to stay safe.
Our objective was to educate millenials on the dangers of unsafe hook-ups and push them to get tested.
