When a frazzled FKA twigs arrives to her tiny NY apartment after a rough day, she asks Siri for music. As HomePod fills the room with smooth immersive sound, the whole house comes alive and becomes her dance partner, transforming her mental and emotional space.

In 2018, Apple launched HomePod. A smart-speaker that can re-architect the acoustics of any space to deliver the highest-fidelity sound. Coupled with the intelligence of Siri and Apple Music integration, HomePod takes the home listening experience to a whole new level for anyone who loves and respects music.

The story was about the effect of music in our living space. Therefore, as you’ll see in the demo film we created for this entry, music guided the director’s artistic vision. From storyboard and dance rehearsals to final picture. Every single choice throughout the filmmaking process was decreed by the beats and pacing of the track. The daunting challenge was to capture as much practically as possible, with minimum amount of digital VFX, so the performance could feel real and reflect the emotional arc of the musical composition. To achieve this, we designed practical sets programmed to expand and react in synch to tempo and choreography. Lighting was mathematically timed to the colorful staccatos. The speed changes and cadence in each segment dictated the rhythm and flow when we stitched all the scenes together in the edit bay. Sure, CGI would’ve been easier. But anyone can do that.
