OVERVIEW

Background

More than one year has passed since a magnitude 7.1 earthquake struck Mexico City, toppling 40 buildings and killing over 300, but the memory remains fresh. Condemned structures dot many neighborhoods, their facades crumbling. September 19the isn't gone.

Idea

The rubble that fall over Mexico City during 2017 earthquake taken on new life. We turned them into jewelry with the objective of transforming the stones into gemstones: trees, canvases, necklaces, earrings…

Each piece is a reminder that we can be better Mexicans each day, just as we were during the catastrophe. But, how much is altruistic help, hope, or thousands of lives worth? Putting a price on these is impossible, which is why we didn’t put a price on these memories either, creating invaluable jewels. Because of this, and because no help is too small, anyone can acquire them through a voluntary donation, from $1 to as much as they desire.

A collection to remember who we are. 19 series from 19 areas affected by the earthquake that generate a donating culture. If earthquakes are constant in Mexico, help should be constant as well.

Strategy

Mexico will always have earthquakes. We are part of the ring of fire, which makes us one of the countries that is most exposed to seismic activity around the world. We can face this with fear, living in constant alert, or face it with courage and generosity.

We transformed stones from collapsed buildings into jewels of priceless value to remind the country of the strength of our unity and so we never forget that if this happens again, we must face it with strength, generosity, and constant help.

We presented our creations made by artisans, jewelers, and artists to the media, creating empathy for the living homage they had before them, calling their attention and causing them to join our movement, spreading it immediately through the country.

Execution

With their owners permission, we collected 19 stones from 19 buildings that collapsed in the Mexican 2017 earthquake. We gave them to artists, jewelers and artisans who, through them, expressed the human being's ability to overcome any crisis, creating art full of emotions and memories of a moment in which Mexico showed unity and solidarity, was an example of whole world, creating symbols of a generous Mexico, an artistic project of incalculable value.

Outcome

19 series. 19 affected areas.

361 pieces of art created.

$4 million in organic media.
